From A Not-So Experienced PC User
We use Norton Anitvirus for our computer, and honestly I can’t tell you how it works, but it does. So far, it has detected three types of spyware (probably taken into the computer by me…) and given me instructions on eliminating the problem.
To avoid spam, which can lead to spyware because your clicking on all this stuff and not really paying attention to it (oops, just downloaded something!!!) I just use the filter provided by my yahoo email address. All the emails it identifies as spam go to the junk mail folder, and are automatically deleted after a certain amount of time. Plus, it doesn’t count towards your regular mail. The best advice I have, however, is to be careful. Don’t trust anything you don’t know, and free usually means trouble. Your computer holds all sorts of personal information, and you don’t want just anyone getting their hands on it, even if it’s just to spy on you so they know what to advertise. In that case, my AOL pop-up blocker works just fine.
